Harry reveals that, on his father Norman Osborn’s insistence, he was cured by Curt Connors via a powerful organic exosuit that physically augments his body. With the exosuit’s powers rapidly developing, Harry helps Peter rescue Tombstone while Mary Jane discovers that Kraven has kidnapped Connors. The trio attempt to save Connors, but Kraven forcibly turns him back into the Lizard, steals the serum needed to transform him back and mortally wounds Peter. Before Peter can die, the exosuit transfers itself from Harry to Peter’s body, saving him. After Peter viciously defeats the Hunters with his newly enhanced powers, Kraven develops an interest in hunting Peter personally.

Another is Hydro Punch, which is almost certainly a reference to Hydro Man. Dazzler’s Stage is a small tent pitched up with a dancer, referencing Dazzler from the X-Men, and so on. With so many enemies for two Spider-Men to deal with, the Ricochet Web will ensure that their web shooters are always working above and beyond to counter the dreaded weaponry of the enemies that they will face in New York City. The Ricochet Web will help players web up multiple enemies, shooting enemies one after another. Gadgets are an important aspect of being Spider-Man, almost as much as saving people and keeping a secret identity in a pretty cool superhero outfit. When it comes to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter and Miles will have access to 5 gadgets, with each of them providing the two Spider-Men with new ways of dealing with the criminals of New York City. A new addition to Spidey’s tech, Concussion Burst knocks back all nearby enemies with a blast of concussive force.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the most anticipated action-adventure games, bringing the thrilling world of Spider-Man to life with stunning graphics and immersive gameplay. And sure, more of what came before does mean that Spider-Man 2 retreads less successful ground, like the first game’s buzz-killing science puzzles. However, the good far outweighs the bad, and a few new gameplay mechanics freshen up aspects of both traversal and combat. Altogether, it’s a great game and one well worth seeing all the way through from its bombastic beginning to its emotional end.
By the time I rolled credits on the story I only had to spend 2 more hours chasing down collectibles and that platinum trophy was mine. Spider-Men Peter Parker and Miles Morales face the ultimate test of strength inside and outside the mask as they fight to save the city, each other and the ones they love, from the monstrous Venom and the dangerous new symbiote threat. Explore an expansive Marvel’s New York with faster web-swinging and the all-new Web Wings, quickly switching between Peter and Miles to experience different stories, epic new abilities and high-tech gear. luck8 makes each match a visual feast to behold, and the game brought in many new important roster choices such as Phoenix, Dormammu, and MODOK. The Ultimate release added even more iconic Marvel heroes, like Doctor Strange, Hawkeye, and Rocket Raccoon, thus making it the definitive version of one of the best fighting games ever made.
Reflecting on how these memories will soon be lost to him, it’s a stark reminder to Miles (and the player) that this world is populated by real people and their experiences, and that is worth fighting for. There’s also the prerequisite stealth options which — and this cannot be stressed enough — serve zero purpose for Spider-Man. As with most games, the choice to stick with stealth attacks will almost aways slow down the gameplay and result in most players triggering fisticuffs just to get back to the action. Thankfully, the team at Insomniac seem to have realized this, creating very few scenarios where the stealth is forced outside of mini-game sequences and, of course, Mary Jane. Whether you’re a newcomer or a seasoned web-head to their slick moves, there’s plenty to get stuck into. The new parry mechanic is essential to dealing with some of the undodgeable strikes particular enemies use. You can still swing away to escape, but a well-timed parry not only stops the incoming attack but leaves an enemy vulnerable to further damage. And then there’s the new Web Line mechanic which lets you craft your own high wire paths across specific points in the environment, giving you even more control and flexibility over stealth takedowns. A Spider-Man 2 trailer with an extended gameplay demonstration was revealed during the latest PlayStation Showcase. The 10-minute video highlighted how players will switch between Peter and Miles in the game, and their new combat abilities, including a fiendish Symbiote suit that grants Peter some aggressive new powers.
But from a project this obviously big and expensive, it all feels disappointingly undercooked. All of this contributes to fighting back against crime in each district of New York, a city now twice the size of what we’ve seen before including the leafy residential roads of Queens and the bustling borough of Brooklyn. There are 14 unique districts, each with its own set of objectives to complete before you can unlock fast travel to that part of the map. Gliding is especially great for crossing long distances thanks to the numerous wind tunnels that carve their way through New York’s seemingly endless grid of streets flanked by art deco architecture and modern mirror-like skyscrapers. Of course, a hero is nothing without its villains, and Spider-Man’s rogues gallery is almost unparalleled.
Now, in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, players alternate between both heroes with the press of a button. Peter’s trying to hold down a new teaching job at Miles’ high school, while Miles has his hands full with college applications. You’ll watch them navigate their intersecting civilian lives while teaming up to protect the city.
